Dorchester's Animals Need Your Support Now!

Rarely a day goes by that the Dorchester Humane Society doesn't receive a call about an unwanted companion animal.  The situation is grave; especially for cats.  Kittens born under a shed, puppies left along a country road - these are the animals we want to help.  Sadly, their numbers are too many and our resources too few.  We have a difficult task before us, however we've been given a valuable gift to help us.  We need you in order to be successful.

Beagle Bash 2010: Annual Fundraiser and Alumni Celebration Hosted by Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland

All things beagle will be celebrated featuring games and contests, canine good citizen testing, swimming in the beagle pool, raffles, vendors and more. Proceeds from the event will go towards the daily care, veterinarian services and supplies for Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland, Inc.'s fostered beagles that come primarily from rural shelters in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland, Inc. will host its fifth annual fundraiser and alumni celebration Beagle Bash 2010 on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from noon – 4:00 p.m. at Countryside Kennels in Owings, Maryland.

Dorchester Humane Society and Gabby’s Pet Depot Form Partnership

The Dorchester Humane Society announces that Gabby’s Pet Depot in Easton has joined their team as an adoption partner. Gabby’s Pet Depot will have kittens for adoption during their business hours. “We’re very excited to have this adoption venue and two kittens have already been adopted,” states Suzette Stitely executive director for the society. “We encourage everyone to visit our kittens at their store. After Waiting One Year, Black Pearl Finally Finds Love
Once an animal is admitted into the adoption program at the Dorchester Humane Society, they are cared for as long as it takes to find their forever home.  For a kitty named Black Pearl, this took a bit over a year.  Black Pearl arrived as an injured stray in May 2009 and was rushed to the vet where her tail had to be amputated.  She was given lots of love and nursing care and recovered quickly.  Her pleasing personality quickly won the hearts of  staff.

CBEC's First Dog Walk & Yappy Hour a Big Success!

Pictured above are some of the 50 dogs and their owners who attended the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center’s “first annual” Dog Walk and Yappy Hour on May 22 in Grasonville.  The event celebrated CBEC’s new dog memberships, allowing member pets weekend access to the 510-acre wildlife sanctuary’s beaches and trails.  For information on people or dog memberships, contact 410.827.6694, or visit www.bayrestoration.org.
